After a whole summer of contemplating it, I finally booked myself a plane ticket to Chicago. I figured I needed a holiday, plus I could always visit my family while there. A two for one trip if you will. My favourite kind.
The trip itself was quite the operation, including 3 internal flights and a 450 mile drive through Flirida but it was fun, exciting and so worth it.
I'll do a series of blog posts detailing our stops because a) I'd like to really draw out the process of remembering this trip, and b) blog content.
First up is Chicago. We started our trip here because my mum had spent a lot of time in Chicago and had planned that we would move there one day. We didn't though, but it's still one of her favourite places and I was curious as to why.
In 3 days we visited 3 museums, took a boat ride on the river and then lake Michigan, visited the famous Bean, Willis Tower and Skydeck, and of course went to see a Cubs game at Wrigley field. To kill any left over time we had, we managed to squeeze in a couple of shopping trips and drive past President Obama's former residence. I like to tell myself that I will sleep when I'm dead.
Along with being really lucky with the weather, I had an excellent tour guide in my uncle, so got to go to the best sandwich places and restaurants. Our time there was a little rushed but Chicago was a truly beautiful city and I cannot put into words how happy I am to have been able to visit it.
I'll leave a mixture of iPhone and camera photos in each post.
